Chemical Free, Super Cheap, DIY Dry Shampoo

I’m going to tell you a little secret: I hate washing my hair. Well, actually I don’t hate washing it per se. I just hate the maintenance that is involved with styling it once I wash it. Blow drying my hair takes at least 45 minutes, and then I still have to style it! Yikes-a-bee. I don’t have that kind of time. And my guess is neither do you, mama!

Chemical free, super cheap, DIY dry shampoo

Thank goodness for the marvelous invention that is dry shampoo! It saves my time and my sanity on a regular basis. I’ve tried out several different brands of dry shampoo in the past and have liked them, but when I checked out the labels I was a little freaked out by all the chemicals I was spraying directly onto my scalp that would be soaking into my skin. Butane anyone? Not to mention all the unknowns hiding behind the name "fragrance," ICK!

I’m all about DIY beauty products–most of the time they are much cheaper, work just as effectively, and have much friendlier ingredients. This DIY dry shampoo is  no exception.

I use a cheap makeup brush that came with one of my powder foundations to dust a little onto my roots.

DIY DRY SHAMPOO

4 TBS cornstarch
2 TBS arrowroot powder
2-3 drops essential oil (optional–I used lavender)

*FOR DARK HAIR* Add 1-2 TBS cocoa powder to the mix to darken it up. Bonus: Your hair will smell like chocolate.

Mix all ingredients together and store in an airtight container. Dust onto your roots and massage your scalp like you are washing your hair to eliminate any white residue build up. Brush out hair and style as usual.

I hope you love this DIY version of dry shampoo as much as I do and that it saves you a little bit of cash, and some time on your getting ready routine.

Do you DIY any of your beauty or personal care products?
